Meet Sarah

Hi, I’m Sarah Jane.

If there’s one thing I’ve done my whole life, it’s sew. From making clothes out of bedsheets as a kid to turning thrifted pieces into wearable art, my sewing machine has always been one of my favorite creative outlets.

Sarah Jane Alterations was built out of that love for sewing, a deep appreciation for good clothing, and a desire to make alterations feel more approachable, personal, and actually helpful.

How this started

I’ve been on a bit of an entrepreneurial adventure over the years — from crocheting bralettes in college, to starting a short-lived (but fun) family thrifting business called NHP Threads. But I kept asking myself: how can I keep doing what I love and turn it into something sustainable?

The answer was right in front of me: my sewing room.

One summer, I made a simple video asking friends and family to send me their alterations. The response was amazing, and I’ve been steadily stitching ever since. Word of mouth carried me this far, and now I’m building something more intentional — a service that feels warm, polished, and genuinely useful.

Sewing has always brought me joy — but sewing for other people has made me better. There’s something special about helping someone feel comfortable, confident, and more like themselves in their clothes.

What matters to me now

In the past, I’d rush through personal sewing projects — skipping ironing, skipping the double-checks, and definitely not measuring twice. But once people started trusting me with their clothing — wedding gowns, favorite jeans, vintage finds, and everyday staples — it pushed me to raise the bar.

Now I care deeply about professional finishes, clean hems, precise seams, beautiful shaping, and doing things the right way. From quick fixes and formalwear alterations to thrifted treasures that need a second life, I take pride in every stitch.

My goal is simple: to make alterations feel easy, personal, and worth it.

Have something you want to bring back to life?

I’d love to help. Whether it’s a favorite piece that needs a better fit or a garment you’ve been meaning to fix forever, let’s make it wearable again.
